The Guiding Star Foundation’s was founded in May of 2013, with the mission to provide uninsured or underinsured disabled individuals in Michigan the opportunity to maximize their function, independence and not allow their disability to define their lives. The foundations financial aid will assist with programs in mobility, adaptive home modification/equipment, medical supplies, durable medical equipment, and activities of daily living, rehabilitation services and adaptive recreational equipment that individuals may not have the means to receive.
The Guiding Star Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that, through generous donations, has been able allow individuals that have sustained injuries maximize independence. To date, we have been able to help with building multiple entrance ramps for homes, delivered specially designed exercise equipment for individuals with spinal cord injuries, provided specialty hospital beds for individuals, increased mobility for individuals by providing scooters and walkers to those in need, and provided free ice time for individuals with disabilities and their families to try sled hockey.
The Guiding Star Foundation is operated entirely by volunteers. Meaning that as much money as possible is available for those needing assistance. The Guiding Star Foundation accepts monetary donations, as well as durable medical equipment, and non opened medical supplies. All donations are cleaned and inspected, then sent off to be repaired if needed before they are sent to those in need.
